WHAT IS THE IDEA OF AN INTERNATIONAL AUXILIARY, AND WHY?

The world is shrinking, and in a previous age foreigners were miles and days away.
Now, with modern communications - especially the Internet - anyone on the globe could be only two seconds away.
As a civilization we have outgrown the restrictions placed on us by the often mutually exclusive national languages.
We now have the ability to send signal to anywhere on the planet; but, because of the existence of non-compatible national languages, there is no guarantee that the signal will be meaningful when received.
It is time for human ingenuity to come up with an effective solution to this problem: the technological fix is being tried - at great expense; and the traditional alternative is costly translation and interpretation.
If a low-cost solution, that has no technological overhead, can be found, then it deserves to be researched by our best brains. This is the IAL hypothesis.
Formerly a school student learnt one, or more, foreign languages, and this, as well as being a sign of his education, was his ticket to the known world.
Now, the situation is totally out of hand, with the number of national languages in use over a thousand. To service the newer populations coming into the global economy and culture, the emerging indigenous peoples, translation and translating programs just cannot keep up.
Regional Auxiliary Languages have been proposed for Asia, Europe and Africa, but these are only partial solutions to the total problem, and hardly Global solutions.
The selection of the most suitable language to be taught in all schools - as the Second Language for the world - is not a theoretical difficulty, but it is opposed for psychological and cultural reasons.
Three quarters of a century ago the League of Nations voted on a resolution to adopt Esperanto as the IAL: while the vote was lost then, perhaps it is time for civilization builders to try again ... but with proper comparative research prior to a decision, this time.
Once one language has been chosen to serve as the IAL, then the illiterate masses can gain an education through the new medium; and, thinkers will have the means of communing with other like minds anywhere on the planet. Are we ready for World Renaissance?
